カピラ城近辺の山には、多くの仙人達がすんでいました。その中の一人に、人々が賞賛し、

スッドーダナ王が特に尊敬する年老いたアシタ仙人がいました。アシタ仙人は、王に子が生まれたことを聞くと、

まだ生まれたばかりの子の体の特徴や性格を調べるため、王宮へ行きました。

Many an ascetic lived in the hills around the city of Kapilavastu. Among them was the aged ascetic Asita,

who had won the admiration and respect of King Suddhodana. Hearing that King Suddhodana was blessed with a Son,

Ascetic Asita paid a visit to the Palace, to examine the bodily characteristics of the infant Prince.
