太子が必ず悟りを開くことを予言する、バラモンのコーンダンニャ

Brahmin Sage Kondanna asserts that the Infant Prince will undoubtedly become The Enlightened One.

太子の名前を選ぶために王宮に集まった賢者たちは、太子の顔にある吉相に気がつき、ある賢者は、

太子がスッドーダナ王の後を継いで王になり、後に全世界の帝王になると言いました。しかし、

賢者たちの中では若いコーンダンニャは確信を持って、「このシッダルタ太子は青年期に宮殿での生活と

王位を捨てて、出家するでしょう。彼は人々の幸福を求めて修行をはじめ、やがて悟りを得て、

仏陀となるでしょう。彼は世界が今まで知らなかったような偉大な師となるでしょう。」と述べました。

The Sages who gathered to select a name for the Prince, were able to observe the auspicious marks

on His face. Some of the Sages said that the Prince will succeed to the Throne after King Suddhodana,

and will later become a Universal Monarch. But Kondanna a youthful savant among the Sages firmly

stated thus : "This Prince Siddhartha will renounce the household life and the Throne in His youth.

He will embark upon a quest for the bliss that transcends all worldly bliss. He will attain Buddhahood,

and will become The Enlightened One. He will be the greatest Teacher world has ever known".
