Saintpaulia species Photo Gallery

Saintpaulia difficilis
This large, rosulate species flowers quite profusely. It resembles S.grandiflora(see below) but differs in somewhat rugose leaves with more distinctly serrate leaves with apex acute to subacute.

Saintpaulia grandifolia(whole plant)
Saintpaulia grandifolia(flower)
Probably this is the commonest species among Japanese fans next to S.ionantha. The plant in the photo was about 35cm in diameter, which is NOT BIG FOR THIS SPECIES.
Seldom suckers but propagates easily by leaf cutting.

Saintpaulia magungensis var.minima
Saintpaulia magungensis var.minima(closeup)
This tiny trailer, occasionally more than 30cm long, flowers rarely. Each foliage is about 1cm across.

Saintpaulia pendula var.kizarae
This is a small to medium-sized trailer. From the standard variety(see below) it differs in smaller parts of whole plants, longer petiole in proportion with leaf lamina, numerous flowers per stalk.

Saintpaulia pendula var.pendula(whole plant)
Saintpaulia pendula var.pendula(closeup)
This medium-sized trailer is somewhat more robust than var.kizarae with paler in color. Though this is not an easy bloomer, this species is also common among fans.

Saintpaulia rupicola
This miniature bushy species seems to tolerate drier conditions than others. Elongated heart-shaped leaves with long petiole makes it distinguishable from other species.

Saintpaulia Robertson(whole plant)
Saintpaulia Robertson(closeup of flowers)
This undescribed species is quite large ; the plant in the photo was about 30cm in diameter, the flower was about 2.7cm across. Whole plant, including flowers, is pale in color.
